I'm Back...Where Have I Been?

Hello?  Is this thing on??  Is there even a chance that anyone is actually out there still reading this blog?

This is me ⇩. My name is Wendy.  I write The Shabby Nest.

For those of you who might be new here...Welcome.  For those of you who've been reading my blog for a while, I'm glad you've stuck with me while I've been MIA.  I took an unplanned two month hiatus.  And I learned something about myself and this blog.  I really love blogging, but I am having a hard time "career blogging".

When I started my blog 9 years ago (yes 9...and blog years are something like dog years - so I'm ancient as far as bloggers go) blogging was a very different animal than it is today.  It was definitely more casual...perhaps a bit less work-like and more fun.

Not that the direction the blogging world has taken is bad.  It's not.  There are some incredibly talented people out there.  And blogs are an amazing way to showcase that talent.  I find much inspiration by reading blogs, looking at bloggers' Instagram and Pinterest accounts, etc.

But, in my life as a single mom of four, who works full time as an Interior Designer, and who is trying to wade her way through her 40's, I find it difficult to devote the time and effort to my blog and my house projects that I was once able to do.

And yet, I want to continue to share here on my blog.  I mentioned in a post a while back, that I no longer want to limit the blog to just décor.  Interior design and decorating are my passion.  They will always be my passion.  But there is more to me than just design and décor.  For instance, I graduated from College with a degree in Fashion Merchandising.  I still love fashion.  I love beauty (especially as I find myself aging and trying to look my best as I do so).  I love bargains.  I love books and movies.  I love sharing about  my weight loss journey and healthy eating.

Would you all still come and read this blog if I shared a little bit about all these things?  Everything you read about blogging in this day and age says that you should focus and have a niche.  I've done that for several years, and now I want to expand.   Will that resonate with you?  My readers who are still here?  My readers who may be visiting for the first time?  Would you want to come back?

I sure hope so.  Because I want to continue blogging.  And I thoroughly believe that if I can come here and share a little bit about all the parts of my life that make me...me, then hopefully, I can find and share the joy that blogging has to offer.

And hopefully, the things I share will be useful for others in similar circumstances...or those who just want a bit of inspiration.

Maybe I'm having a blog midlife crisis.  Or a real one (I guess I'm that age).  But either way, I think re-inventing this little old blog might be an adventure that will benefit me...and hopefully you too.

xoxo
Wendy

The only way you are going to run me off is if you start promoting essential oils in every other blog post. Other than that, you do you and I'll still be here.

Loyal readers are still here. We grow and evolve as should the blog - as the previous poster said - no essential oils and please no luluroe and we will keep reading!

I think you should write about anything you'd like. You need to write about things that make you happy. I will still read your blog! Be true to yourself.

Actually, I'm seeing a lot of the blogs I'm following making the same changes you're talking about. I follow probably 40 or so, mostly home decorating and furniture refinishing blogs and I think most are starting to add personal content. I'm all for it! After all, blogs are personal. If I only wanted expert business info-I wouldn't look to a blog. I love the sense of real people sharing real life ideas...so I say GO FOR IT!

nice to see you. one of the major ways that i think blogging has changed is that everything is a lifestyle blog now. not that that's bad-i love seeing all of someone's life, so of course i will continue reading. maybe one day i'll return to more than just reading blogs myself!
