Notes From The Nest~

It's officially summer here!  The kiddos last day of school was Friday, and now we have three months of laid back summer living ahead of us.

I gotta be honest though, I thrive on schedules, and honestly, so do kids. Check out this article on the importance of creating summer schedules for kids.

And while we're talking summer, my kids adore watermelon.  So you bet I'm going to be trying out this brilliant idea.

I'm not much of a camper.  But glamping is something I can get on board with.  I'm hoping to take the kids to this lovely ranch this summer.

Summer House Tour 2015~

Hello Lovelies!

I'm so excited to be a part of this year's Summer Tour of Homes hosted by Gina at The Shabby Creek Cottage!

There are so many amazingly beautiful homes on this year's tour...if you haven't been following along, make sure to go to the beginning and see all of them.

If you've just come from Jones Design Co. WELCOME!  If not, make sure you go check out here tour here.

For those of you who are new to The Shabby Nest, let me tell you a bit our home!  I purchased our little home which I affectionately call Hydeaway Cottage last summer.  You can read more about that here.

I am interior designer, and much like the cobbler's children who have no shoes, Hydeaway Cottage is still very much a work in progress, but I'm very excited to show you what I have been able to accomplish in the past 10 months, and to share with  you some of the plans that are still in the works.

LIVING ROOM

I love how the living room has come together!  One of my favorite features is the wall of square wainscoting that I added a few months ago.

New Weekly Post: Frugal Favorites~

Hello Lovelies!

Back when I first started my Frugal Friday link party a few years ago, I did a separate post each week that featured my favorite link-ups from the previous week.

I've decided to bring this idea back with my new weekly post, Frugal Favorites.

Every week on Wednesday I'm going to share a few of my favorites from the previous week's party.  I want my loyal linkers (linkers??) to have more exposure than they were getting as a part of the link party post.  I feel like  most people glaze right over the features as they hurry to link up.

I also want you all to be aware, that I am going to make a concerted effort to share my favorite posts with my almost 15,000 followers on Pinterest.

Turn This Outfit Into A Room: Fashion Inspiration For Room Design~

Inspiration for room designs can come from just about anywhere.  From a fabric, from a paint swatch, from a piece of art.  Or in my case, from fashion.

Fun fact:  before I studied interior design, I earned a bachelor's degree in Fashion Merchandising.  Thankfully, the fundamentals of color and design extend through both fields.  And to this day, even though I'm crazy passionate about interior design, I still have a soft spot for my background in fashion.

And because I still love fashion...using outfits to inspire room designs comes naturally to me.

Here's a mood board for a home office that I created using inspiration from this cute dress by Ruche.

One Room Challenge: The Teen Girl's Bedroom REVEAL~

The Land of Nod, IKEA, Oh Koey and Shades of Light all contributed items to this room reveal.

I'm so excited to share the reveal of my daughter's new bedroom as part of the One Room Challenge hosted by Calling It Home!

I've been working hard on this room over the past six weeks and I'm so excited with how it's come together.  The inspiration for this room really came down to color.  My daughter wanted mint/aqua/turquoise or something along those lines.  So we started by picking her bedding, and everything else really came together from there.

I was on a pretty tight budget for the space.  I had to think long and hard about where my money would best be spent.  The bedding which is from Pottery Barn Teen was the first and most important purchase because the colors set the tone for the remainder of the room.  We used the bedding to pick out the wall color,  Aqueduct by Sherwin Williams, which was our next purchase.  You may recall from one of my previous posts, that I was worried about going with such a saturated color, but I am very glad that we did.

There's lots more to see!  Check out the rest of the room after the break....

E-Design Services~

The face of blogging has changed so much in the 7 years that I have been writing this blog.  And I realize that so many of you who read the blog, are new readers and may not actually know much about me or what I do.

From a Parade of Homes House I Designed as an Independent Project a Few Years Ago

I am an interior designer.  By day, I work for a new construction home builder.  I help home buyers pick out every finish that will go into their new homes.  From the carpet, to the faucets, to the paint color and even the exteriors of their new home.  It's fun and gratifying to help these excited home buyers create homes they will love.  As a part of my job, I also get to work on model homes.  I love, love, love this part of my job as well.   Creating a house from the ground up, and then bringing it to life with beautiful furnishings.  It's kind of like playing with a grown-up, life-size doll house.  ;)
