Frugal Friday~

Welcome to this week's edition of Frugal Friday!!

This is a photo of my sofa in its summer finery. A pretty white slipcover. I love a white slipcover. And I would probably leave the white slipcover on all year long...except for one thing. The hubby is spending his convalescence in the living room. It was the most convenient room for him in his not-able-to-get-around-without-a-walker state.

Normally, the kids don't spend a lot of time in the living room. But with Dad in there (not to mention a TV that is not normally there) they have been spending a lot of time there. So the white slipcover was really taking a beating. Don't get me wrong, it washes up really well, and with bleach it looks as good as new. But with everything else on my plate right now, washing a slipcover once a week, is not on my agenda.

So I dressed my sofa in a nice, warm autumn-y tan slipcover. And I threw on this pretty sweater pillow to add some additional coziness.

So, you may wonder why I am sharing this for Frugal Friday. Well, let's just say that switching slipcovers is the cheapest way I've found to get a "new" sofa. And, that pillow? Only about $15 at IKEA and it looks a lot like the PB version that sells for 3 times as much. ;-)

Sofa and slipcover........EKTORP from IKEA

Now it's your turn.

Where did you get the slip cover? Or did you have it made. That is one job that would probably be too large for me to handle...

My loveseat's starting to look a little shabby. A cover would be a lot cheaper than a new one. Now I just need to find the one I want. Thanks for hosting.

Your slipcover is beautiful!! I really need to do that for my living room sofa. It's pretty sad. :)
Continuing to keep you all in our prayers - hope hubby and Dad are doing well.

I have had my eye on that couch! I love the makeover. I used a slip cover on our old UGLY couch, but it was quite annoying, as it would not stay fit even with a noodle to hold it in place as I had been advised.

However, the Ikea slipcovers are different, and I bet you won't have that problem. This couch is definitely on my wish list.

We're planning to buy and Ektorp sofa and loveseat soon, and I'd like to get the white slipcover for it, but I'd like to get a darker one too. Do you know what color your darker slipcover is? I was looking online and I think they've changed the colors recently because the light brown looks darker than what you have, but I kind of like yours better. Anyway, if you remember the color name let me know because I think you can still get some old ones on ebay.
Thanks and hope your husband has a speedy as possible recovery.

Love it! I switch out pillows and stuff all the time! Hope the hubby is on the mend. (Mine had knee surgery in April so I know how that goes!) Thanks for hosting!

I love the look of the IKEA Ektorp sofa...and have saved my cash on 3 different occasions to purchase two for our family room. But everytime I get there and sit on them, I find them hard as a rock. I can't imagine cozy-ing up on them with the kiddos to watch a movie. Do you find they 'break in' a bit after awhile?

So many folks in blogland have them, I figure I must be the odd one out...or I'm missing something :)

Thanks for hosting, even in the midst of your hubby's recovery.

Your sofa looks wonderful! I like it both ways. I think you're wise to put away the white slipcover for now.

I'm so glad that this week has been one of progress for your family. You have so much on your plate right now! God bless you as you tend to everyone's needs; may you be upheld by His right hand.

Thank you so much for hosting this wonderful party.

I like the sofa both ways. How is the IKEA sofa holding up? I'm looking for something smaller for my living room.

I'm glad your life is getting back to something a little more normal.

Take care!

Do you remember what the name of the pillow was at IKEA? I can't find it anywhere on the site, and I love that cable knit look!
