Patching Things Up~

I was a busy girl yesterday. I pulled out the old sewing machine and went to work.

A while back I had the idea of making some "custom" t-shirts for my toddler boys by using some fun vintage clip art images, cotton canvas and (what else?) photo transfer paper to make patches that I could sew onto some plain tees. I found a vintage firetruck image that I just loved. Printed it out (twice), ironed each one onto the canvas, and then realized that I had inadvertently printed them out bigger than I thought, and they wouldn't work for the boys' shirts.

But I knew I would come up with a brilliant idea sooner or later so I held on to them. And yesterday it hit me! I had some lovely ticking fabric that I could use with the firetruck patch to make a darling pillow.

Isn't it cute? I made one for the chair in the boys' room, and one that I will list in my Etsy! Love. it. so. much.

And just so you can see... I did get some t-shirts done for the boys. Here they are with cute pictures of dalmations (or firedogs as the hubby calls them). So it all worked out in the end. Yea!

EDITED TO ADD: My fabulous-ly stylish friend Kasey is having an amazing giveaway at her blog today. Amazing. That's all I'm sayin'.

Have a great Thursday~

What a cute idea - love the pillow. We are going to San Francisco in Sep. and are planning on doing this tour (http://www.fireenginetours.com/). I will make a pic with hubby & truck and then make a "special" pillow.

You are such a talent - thanks for sharing your ideas.

The 'fire dogs' are cute! Especially on the red shirts. The pillow is really cute too!

Our Really Empty Nest: Photo transfer paper is easy to find...my favorite brand is Avery and you can actually get it at Walmart. It's in the office supply section and costs around $7 for 6 sheets. Make sure you get the Tee shirt transfer paper (not the Dark Shirt transfer paper). Then just follow the directions on the package. It's very easy! Good luck!

Aww very cute! Love it! It would be cute to find black and white dalmatian print fabric and make a pillow with that transfer and then edge it with red of some sort! :)

Okay, first of all, that pillow is adorable! You are so talented!

Sidenote: When we went to the fair last year, they had an old fire engine like that on display. The fireman let my nephew ring the bell. We did not get to play with the hand-turn siren though. The fireman informed us that dalmations were "firedogs" because they were deaf and the sirens and bells didn't bother them. Okay, random bit of info for the day!

Hi Wendy...first of all, love your blog!! Secondly, would you mind sharing where you found that vintage firetruck clipart??? I am due with our first boy (after two very girly girls) in Sept. and I have been searching for prints to make for the walls of his room. I haven't found one quite that cute! I appreciate your help.

Not only is that pillow absolutely gorgeous, I adore those t-shirts! Heck, I'd wear that myself :) I always call Dalmatians *spotty fire-engine dogs*...perhaps your husband and I read that same book when we were kids...the one about the fire house and the dog that always ran after the truck...does anyone remember the name??? Anyway, whatever you call them those are two super cute t-shirts ;)
