My Favorite Paint Colors~

Hey y'all! Today I'm joining the "My Favorite Paint Colors" party over at 320 Sycamore!

This is what my kitchen looked like when we moved into the Shabby Nest...(yeah, so there's a mess all over the counter...just keepin' it real.)

And thanks to the magic of paint, this is what it looks like now...(these pictures were taken a long time ago, and I dare say I could take better ones now, but I'm just lazy enough not to...hope you'll all forgive me.)

These cute shelves replaced the ugly floating cabinet that was to the left of the window when we moved in...

This photo shows the black beadboard we added to the bar.

It's amazing what paint can do! I wanted a cottag-y feel in the kitchen so we chose Nantucket White by Ralph Lauren. It's a warm cream with slightly yellow undertones. It looks fabulous in any light, and really opened up the kitchen.

The walls are Cathedral Gray also from Ralph Lauren. Cathedral Gray is really more of a gray-green. It is neutral enough to blend with pretty much any palette but still adds interest to the walls.

The bar and the refrigerator surround are painted out in a true black. I adore the addition of black to the color scheme because it adds a lot of sophistication without being overpowering.

Hop over to 320 Sycamore and check out the favorite paint colors of others all over blogland!

Have a great day~

I love it! I can't wait to start my kitchen! I am seeing all these brave women who have ventured out and made their kitchens look so much better and I am just ready to go! Well, I am ready to go, our bank account isn't yet. BUT IT WILL BE ON FRIDAY!!!! Looks awesome!

Oh, your kitchen looks fabulous! I have been wanting to paint our cabinets since we moved in 5 years ago but haven't been brave enough yet. I also love your black beadboard island...gorgeous!

Your kitchen is adorable! I really can't wait until we start redoing our house this summer so that I can enjoy that "in love" feeling with my house!

WOWIE!

The more painted kitchen cabs I see the more it makes me want to tackle my own with paint.

I've also thought about installing some shelving- very similar to the ones you put up (to hold similar items!). It's nice to see a photo of what I'd like to accomplish. How deep are those shelves? I'd like mine to hold bowls.

Do you find yourself cleaining the cabinets often? I love the color white, but am afraid that my kid's finger prints will be all over them. Did you use a high gloss paint? Our kitchen is in severe need of a make over. The flooring is in from previous owners, grey tile. Now I'm left with icky green countertops/backsplash, and brown cupboards with gold and white knobs. Our appliances are the same color as yours. You've inspired me to paint them white or a lighter color. Thanks for the pictures.

Nice job. I love that white.

Hi Astrid:

The shelves are about 12" deep.

Kasey:

We used a semi-gloss paint for the cupboards, and surprisingly I don't have to wash them that often...and I have four kiddos! When they do get dirty, though, they wash up like a dream!

I love your kitchen! We are going to attempt to paint our cabinets this summer. They are already off-white but need to be cleaned up and refreshened. Wish us luck. I love your stools.

Wendy~thanks so much for joining! What a difference paint made in this kitchen! I love this RL blue color and it's always good to have great white on hand as well. The stools are so "Wendy" with the numbers~love them.

Wendy, your kitchen looks great painted with white cabinets. I esp. love that little shelf you added instead of the single cabinet. Looks great!

I love your kitchen. We desperately need to paint our cabinets and bring them up to date! It just seems so hard and time-consuming!

I agree... It is amazing what paint can do. I love your kitchen!!! It looks so clean....unlike mine at the moment. :) I am reading the last book in the series. I am.....as you guess....absolutely loving it!! I have reading it quite slowly, because I don't want it to be over. It is such a treat for me. :) Have you seen the "New Moon" movie trailer? It looks so awesome... Can't wait for the movie. I feel like a little school girl. WEIRD!!!!!!!!

The Ralph Lauren color goes so well. I love mixing up the island and the cabinets!

This is a beautiful transformation! You wouldn't even know it was the same room. Don't you just wonder what people are thinking? Like, why would they stick that one little shelf over there by itself? :)

I love the look of your painted cabinets. I would so love to paint my cabinets, but we built our home in 2008 and my hubby would KILL me if I painted our cherry cabinets.

I'm really dying to paint my cabinets but I'm afraid they will get chippy. Did you put a glaze or something over it? Did you use high gloss? Semi-gloss? Will you let me know so I can do this project? Thanks. Alysawhitlock@yahoo.com

Attic Gal Alysa said...

I just read in your comments that you did semi-gloss. Did you use any glaze? What about painting? Did you use sand paper? Take the doors off and spray or roll them or paint brush? Were you shelves ready made or did you make them? Sorry so many questions. I getting more and more geared up to do this and just need another witness (you know, out of 2-3 witnesses :) that about what to do. Thanks Wendy. You are always so inspiring!

Very nice! We added beadboard to the sides of our cabinets as well as the back to the bar.

I love your new wall shelf where that silly, lonely cabinet used to be.

I love your kitchen. The shelf that you added is so cute and I love the beadboard too! Makes me want to redo my kitchen now!

Great kitchen makeover! Looks beautiful. Really like how you replaced that lone cabinet with open shelving. We had a similar layout in our last kitchen and I wish I had thought of that! :-)

Your colors/cabinets are AMAZING!

I noticed someone else asked about painting them. Did you do Nester style and leave them on the hinges while you painted?
