Headboard Alternatives~

So I have been fretting about the lack of a headboard in my Master Bedroom. The hubby made me a beautiful headboard out of some doors a few years back, but ALAS in one of our moves it was more or less destroyed. I have been trying to come up with the perfect headboard idea ever since, and haven't quite settled on one.

So today I thought I'd share some alternative headboard inspiration I gathered over at Country Living!

So simple it's perfect! Love the idea of a collage above the bed. In this case it's botanicals, but it could be anything including photos, plates etc.
This photo isn't really my style, but I do like the idea of a pretty quilt above the bed...or it could be any great old textile.

I'm sure there's actually a headboard hidden behind those pillows, but what I was really interested in here are the curtains. A simple cornice over the bed with some great fabric draping down, maybe?

Oh yeah! Love this one. What a gorgeous mirror! The patina is incredible.

Okay, so there is actually a headboard in this photo as well, but what I like is the idea of a focal wall behind the bed. Maybe some beadboard or some weathered looking siding!
So I might just be forced to think outside the box, but isn't that when the most memorable rooms are created?
Have a great weekend~

I love the mirror over the bed, but I'd be afraid of it falling off the wall and crushing me!

I love them all but the first is definately my favorite! I am in search of a headboard too, I like the old door idea. Thanks for this post!

My bedroom is shaped like the one with the bed in front of the window (converted attic space). I *really* want to position my bed like that. Just need to get a headboard first so our pillows aren't up against the glass! Lovely photos. I've seen that one with brick wall somewhere before. LOVE it.

I love the first room, that is almost the color of my bedroom walls. Very beautiful rooms. I'm trying to figure out whether to make a headboard or paint ours or what so these are good ideas.

The one with the curtains is my fave!! I need to show it to my SIL--her new house has a room like that! :)

I would never want a mirror as a headboard but I always loved the idea of an arrangement of pictures.

I love the mirrored one too. I am going to do something for my daughter's room in the off-campus house she will be renting. She won't have a headboard, so I am thinking of doing some white decorative pieces above the head of her bed.

This probably isn't grownup enough for a master bedroom, but here is what I just did for my four-year-old's bed that was headboard-less... http://thephillipsplace.blogspot.com/2009/06/diy-headboard.html

Good luck in your search!

The last one makes me think of a beautiful princess in a far away cottage where a handsome hardworking prince aides her in escaping tragedy or something...
I like the mirror one too. That is what I have currently but it isn't nearly as fabulous!
Thanks for sharing.

My headboard is too low so I have a very large painting above the bed. I love all of the ideas,...especially the quilt!!

Hi Wendy...I was interested in ordering a bulster pillow with the No. 5 but I did not see that in your etsy shop anymore. Is it possible to order one?

Thanks

Thanks for the ideas. I'm struggling with the same problem. We've been without a headboard ever since we upgraded to a king size mattress.

Great ideas! Can't wait to see what you do. I recently painted headboards for my guest room twin beds. It looks so cute but my grandmother is giving me some antique brass and iron beds! Can't WAIT!!!

Love this post! I actually made my headboard out of iron gates bought at Hobby Lobby. They are black... And look great with my black and white room. I used three of them... I get a ton of compliments! :)
