Frugal Friday~

For today's Frugal Friday we're talking drop cloths and burlap! Doesn't that sound elegant? Well you might just be surprised.

I'm sure many of you have seen Layla's drop cloth drapes. Well, here's my drop cloth tablecloth! And see those pretty plaid drapes in the background? Love them. But they're a little winter-y... so they are going to be replaced with drop cloths one of these days soon! In the meantime one dropcloth measuring approximately 5' x 8' makes a perfect tablecloth and only costs $9.99 at the big home improvement stores.

And to give the table a little texture and interest I added this burlap runner. (Do you like how I ironed the tablecloth and runner for you all? I aim to impress! ha!) I added this little monogram "H" using photo transfer paper (what else?) I wouldn't recommend using it on burlap if you're going to a do a large design, but for my small monogram it was perfect! The whole runner probably cost me about $2.00. Not bad, huh?

Now maybe I should go iron out those wrinkles ;-) I mean the ones on the table cloth...too bad I can't just do that to my crow's feet. ;-)

Have a great weekend~

Looks great. I love the monogram and since I have no clue about photo transfer paper, could you share how you did the monogram?

Great idea to use the drop cloth as a tablecloth! We have a square table that is nearly impossible to find a tablecloth for, and I've been wanting an inexpensive option, so I just might see if I can find a dropcloth that I can hem to size.

I love the table the most, where's it from?

I just bought some drop cloths to make drapes. Wish me luck--I'm not good at that sort of thing.

I love the burlap table runner, very cool. And, of course, I love me some drop cloths. I wonder when the home improvement stores will catch on to us and raise the prices? :)

Wendy, did you do any sewing with those, or was it right off the shelves? ;) (I'm very new to sewing.)
LOVE the monogram idea!

Where did you get your burlap? Rhoda got hers I think at Hobby Lobby, but we don't have one of those here. I do have a JoAnn Fabric (the other 2 craft stores don't carry fabric)

Okay ladies...answers to questions...

First, Tattered cottage: I use Avery Brand T-shirt Transfer paper. It is (hands down) the best. Just follow the package instructions. (For letters you must reverse them first although I hear if you use the Dark Tshirt Transfer you don't need to - but I've never tried it.)

Second, Mrs. W: our table is from Pottery Barn. It is round with three leaves in it.

Third, Amanda: Nope! No sewing involved. That's the beauty of it! I am probably going to put some frey check on the burlap, but for now I left it with raw edges.
And I got the burlap at Joann's $2.99 per yard, baby!

Clever, I wouldn't of thought of a drop cloth. I wonder if it would dye? Good idea with curtains too. I need some in my livingroom. Let me know if you think a drop cloth would dye ok. Thanks

Please don't iron on account of us. I would feel as if I need to then go find my iron. :)

I am loving the whole drop cloth thing as well. My sister in law turned me on to the whole idea. After I washed it a few times with lots of fabric softener I made a skirt for my computer table with it. I love the way it turned out! Drapes for the bedroom are next. :)

Looks good. I also used dropcloths as porch drapes on my backporch. And our walmart in town is getting rid or their fabric so it is all 50% off. Yes I got a whole bolt of burlap..I love it and use it everywhere- especially in the fall and winter.
Take a look at my blog to see my wonderful dropcloth porch drapes.
