This is one of my favorite rooms by designer Heather Chadduck. I *heart* this picture beyond words. And one of the things I love the most is the numbers on her chairs.

Because you all know how much I love typography...especially numbers. Hence, the pillows in my shop.
The other day I was looking at my kitchen chairs and thinking that they needed a little pick me up. So I did what any person who is Obsessively Consumed with Decorating would do. I added a little something....NUMBERS!
This was so simple.
I printed out the numbers on cardstock first (FONT: Century Schoolbook Bold FONT SIZE: 250) . Then I cut them out with an xacto knife to make a template. I used my template to trace the numbers onto the back of the chairs and then painted them in. It took a bit of a steady hand, but I adore the results. I don't think I have been this excited about such a simple project. I just go over and stare at my chairs now. I'm a little wierd that way. I didn't even need to distress them...the kids took care of that for me ;-)

The numbers are a great idea!! Love it!
Great idea, you can even spray paint them and let the overspray show a bit for the effect. Hmm. I have a bench that I could number.
I love this idea, and Century Schoolbook is one of my favorite fonts (yes, I have a font obsession!).
Hi Wendy,
What a great idea, Frugal Friday. We can all use some decorating ideas at this time that won't break the bank. Your chairs look great! I have chairs in dining room from Pottery Barn from last season that are black with white numbers on them. I love the way they look........... but I think your numbered chairs cost you a little bit less than mine did! Great job as always! Keep your wonderful OCD ideas coming!
Pat
Great idea! I love typography too and playing with fonts is so fun!! I'm going to have to look for something to paint!
Wendy - they look fantastic! I also love that photo so much and the numbers on the chairs are a big reason why. I am so impressed with your creativity not to mention your energy! You oughta be so proud of yourself. You knocked it out on this one.
I love this! Redesigning and Redecorating has to be one of my favorite things. It is amazing what you can come up with, using what you have already.
I love the black numbers on those beautiful white chairs!
Looks great!! I was not even 2 weeks ago standing in my own kitchen with printed numbers taped to the back of my chairs to decide what I wanted to do with them. I since have decided to go with initials and instead of on the back I am putting them in the inside of the chairs. Soon to be a new post. I am adding numbers to the tops of my barstools. I love the Whimsy of it!! I definitely understand going back and staring at something you just created, such satisfaction and joy to your heart! Thanks for sharing!
Hugs,
~Victoria~
What a great idea! I've been looking for places to "number" in my house. The chairs are a fabulous idea.
I love this idea! Your chairs look great.
I love this. The numbers really give the chairs that little sum'n, sum'n that you wouldn't have known they needed until you added them.
What kind of paint did you use? Craft or latex?
Love it! I am itching to add numbers...anywhere!
Can't beat that for frugal fabulousness.
That is a great idea!! I love that.
Oh, that comment about the kids distressing your chairs was too funny! I have alot of distressed things in my house too thanks to the kiddos...mainly me! I really like the chairs and I bet having them numbered for parties would lend itself to some fun games and such. If your kids are anything like mine, they don't want to be the first one to "have" to do anything, you could put the numbers in a hat and draw one and whomever is in that seat is "it", problem solved!
Love everything about this - the font, the personality, the price!!
Wendy~what a creative, thrifty, fresh new look for your chairs~I *love* it!! Looking forward to all of your frugal fridays...have a great weekend!
Love this idea! That inspirational photo you used has long been a favorite of mine! I love numbers and letters too :), though I tend to favor initials, monograms, and words spread throughout the house! I also love the look of your kitchen and breakfast area, especially the shelves you put in not long ago and the window seat!! Now your "new" chairs are the perfect finishing touch! :)
I love this idea! Your chairs look great! I want to put my address numbers on my front door, but have not been able to find numbers that aren't too large! This would be perfect to just trace on and paint! Thank you!
Lou Cinda :)
love this - thanks! I'm all about frugal, but love to decorate too...and I have words and numbers all over my house.
I love typography, too! These numbers make such a charming difference on your chairs. Love them!
That is just too cute on your chairs! Have a great weekend!
I love how the black numbers on the chairs tie in with your black cabinets. It's like you planned that or something! ;-)
OMG!! You're a genius. Luv them!
Happy Day- I love it! Now I need to find some chairs to number =)
Great idea! And can I just say how glad I am to know that I'm not the only one that's absolutely obsessed with decorating? I almost named my blog "The Compulsive Decorator"...that's how bad I am :).
Love it!!
Where was that font when I needed it? I did a similar thing this week with numbers too...it must be the spring air.

That was a perfect idea! You definitely have a steady hand!
wow, those look so amazing! such a great job. I'm not sure if I trust myself enough to have that steady of a hand :)
Cute! It looks like something you had custom done! I'd love to see some more Frugal Friday posts on maybe making your own wall art, whether it's for your Living room, bedroom, playroom, or the kids' rooms...hehe...that's a couple of post's worth there. ;)
As I read your post, I'm eyeing my kitchen chairs to see where the numbers would go on best! Thanks for the wonderful idea!~
Wendy,
Have I told you lately how much you ROCK! I am leaving to go pick up the kids from school...then coming home and painting my chairs.
You made my afternoon!
smiles, kari (& kijsa)
This is awesome! You are incredible!!
OH. MY. WORD. I'm so doing this and I don't care how crazy my husband thinks I am!
Oh, I love the numbers on the chairs! That looks great!
I will be eagerly anticipating more frugal ideas!
~Dawn
Amazing! This idea is so simple and C-U-T-E! I love it, but the backs of my chairs are too skinny to hold a number. Maybe I will do it on the seats instead. Yeah, lots of poly on there too!
~Misti
I LOVE it. I bet initials would work, too... the first letter of each person's name... you are giving me dangerous ideas, lady! But at least they're FRUGAL!
I have had that same picture in my idea notebook for awhile--it is one of my favorites. I love the giant blackboard. The numbered chairs are great!
You know, I was thinking my chairs needed something too...and this is it! I'm sooooo copying! Love it!
-Jill
Wow this is awesome...thanks for sharing...Pat H

you've got my wheels turning!

The chairs look great. I'm always looking for thrify ideas! I just redid my bathroom on the cheap and I think it is actually more fun that way! Come visit if you have a moment.
I love how creative we are when we only have a little to spend.
~Michelle
Very cute! love how it looks! Jen
LOve the numbers...typography is a love of mine as well. cherry
This is so adorable. Does it/will it bother you if they get put back in the wrong place? my chairs get moved around all the time! So when doing numbering and lettering, I keep seeing so many people print, cut out with an x-acto knife to make a stencil or pattern to trace. What I use is carbon transfer paper - I print out from the computer my image/type and put the carbon tracing paper between my print and my target painting piece! Trace the outline of your image/type and the carbon transfer paper transfers the image! No tedious cutting and x-acto knife action.
Meredith:
Very Good idea...I just used what I had on hand, but I should probably get some carbon paper for just such a reason. (I HATE cutting with xactos!)
great idea! simple, easy and CHEAP - all my favorite qualities! Do the kids have a specific number assigned to them :-}
love it! you should do a mr. linky for frugal friday decorating!
Fabulous easy project and it makes such an impact on your chairs!
Wow I glad you left a comment so that I could come visit yours. I love that first picture too.
I'm all about frugal projects so looking forward to coming back to visit.
That is the cutest thing ever!!! I wish I had white painted chairs, and I would go to town. I love your new Friday post idea. Leslie
Great project! It's so fun that you were able to create a detail that you LOVE with no cost! The chairs have a little added "bling" now and I bet their standing a little taller too. ;)
I love the Frugal Fridays idea!!
Holy heart attack, Batman...I am speechless!!! Adorable beyond words. : )
Great idea and they turned out amazing!
Tht's awesome. It looks clean and classy!
love it them!!! Such a great and FUN post. Based on your definition - I, too am OCD - Obsessively Consumed with Decorating. YESS...i love that my 'symptoms' have a diagnosis. And I love that I have an indulgent husband. They really are the true heros for women like us, aren't they?
Hugs to you, Wendy!
