Hooked-on Friday~

Edited to Add: For those of you dropping by from Kari & Kijsa's blog...WELCOME! This is an older post, but thought it fit well with their Pillow Party!

On Fridays, Julia at Hooked on Houses has a "What you're hooked on Linky Party". This week, I thought it would be fun to play along.

I guess it's no big secret by now that I'm hooked on Iron-on Transfer Paper. I just can't get enough of this stuff!
"Huh? That's what she's going to share with us?" I can hear you thinking it. But really, it IS exciting! Especially if you're into personalizing your decor like I am.

I know some of you have seen some of these pictures before, but bear with me, because I wanted to share with you these pillows that I made using Iron-on Transfers...

I drew some pictures, scanned them into the computer, played around with them a little bit in photo-editing, then printed them out on a transfer sheet. Then I ironed them onto some fabric and made pillows.

I made this next one for the Hubby (using text is actually a little complicated because you have to flip it, but it's still not too hard)...it looks great in his leather chair. Why 6, you ask? There are 6 of us in our family. (Af ter looking at it, I hope the Hubby knows he's not #6 on the list...he's really at the top. I just thought it looked cuter with the "No." in front of it...but I guess it could be misinterpreted...oops. maybe I better go tell him.) But it's cute, no?

Endless possibilities!

I have TONS of other ideas floating around in my little head. I'll have many of them in my Etsy store...planning on opening it VERY soon...so make sure to come back for my grand-opening giveaway!

Have a wonderful weekend~

Wendy...I am so in love with these pillows. I am forever trying to buy a pillow that I adore but doesn't break the bank! I wish I could sew...
So, where do you get this transfer paper and do they have pre-made designs? Also, where did you get the pillows (were they expensive?!!)

Thank you again for another creative idea! :-)

xoxo
Janie

Everytime I try using transfer paper, I end up with a shiny area around the image. How do you avoid that? Do you cut right up to the edge of the image or text?

Love those pillows!!

I dare not make my hubby a pillow like that. He already thinks he ranks the lowest on the family totem pole!! haha.

When I was pregnant I made a shirt that said "Coming in April," using a white maternity shirt from Target. I made them for two other friends who were pregnant, too. We were due in April, May, and June. It made for some fabulous photos for very little cost!

I'd love to hear your answer to Mama Llama's question. I struggle with that, too. I just cut as close to the image as I can. And temperature has something to do with it, doesn't it?

Okay ladies....lots of questions on this post...first, Blondies Journal...You can get the transfer paper at craft stores like Michael's, but I actually like the ones I get at Staples...I made the pillows and stuffed them with polyfil so I wouldn't have to make them a certain size and use pillow forms.

Mama Llama...I have that problem a little too, but depending on the brand you get, it makes a difference. I noticed with the brand I got at Michael's there were actually instructions saying that the quicker you remove the backing, the less shiny it will be. The brand I use now, from Staples, is from Avery. It doesn't leave a shiny border, but you have to make sure not to apply too much heat or it will "scorch". Also cutting as close to the image as possible is key...I learned that the hard way.

And Southern Inspiration, I worried someone might think that's what I meant when I put No. 6 on the pillow...but it's not. I just thought it looked cuter with the "No." in front. I hope the Hubby realizes he's #1...maybe I better go tell him. ;-)

Hi Wendy, I know that you've been bombarded with questions (a testament to your knowledge!), but I wondered how you "flip" the image when you're printing out text. I've tried to do that, and can't figure it out.

Kimm...If I were really tech savvy, I suppose I'd have used a graphic design program, but I'm not. I tried a bunch of stuff, but in the end I used Microsoft Paint...I just chose the text tool and typed what I wanted. Then I saved it to my computer. After that, I opened a "Word" file. I copied and pasted the saved text image. Once it is pasted, you can resize it just like you would any image. Then using the drawing tools in "word" I was able to flip it...there is a "rotate or flip" option. Choose the horizontal flip. Sounds complicated, but it's really not too bad. Good luck!

Really love these pillows! Anything made original is more special. A few years ago I scanned O Holy Night from a song book, copied it (flipped) onto transfer paper and onto fabric to make a great Christmas pillow. It's a great idea to make a pillow of "your song" for your sweetie on Valentines' Day. Thanks for sharing your lovely pillows!

These are just amazingly cute! Great job! I'm very, very impressed. I wonder if even I (who has no talent in this area) could do this??? I would even be willing to try if they could look half this cute! It certainly would be fun to do with a certain pillow addiction I have. ;-)

Happy Pillow Parade...

Sheila :-)
