I cheated a little bit on these. I took photos of the kiddos and then rather than tracing their silhouettes onto black paper, I simply printed the photos out on regular heavyweight printer paper, and colored them in with a black Sharpie! It was so easy. The hardest part was cutting them out. I couldn't find an exacto (spelling?) knife anywhere...so I had to use scissors - that was a little challenging! Then I framed them up and added them to a photo collage I have at the top of my stairs! So classic. Love it.

Snow Flurries...and Silhouettes
Some unexpected snow flurries kept me from raking up the leaves like I had planned (well, that and the fact that it was freeeeeezing here yesterday). But since I wasn't able to willing to work outside, I had a little extra time to finish a project I've been wanting to get to...silhouettes of my kiddos.

I have been planning to do mine too for months. Yours look so good and classy. The have a pottery barn look to them. You did a great job! These Texans cant believe you have snow!
Another Texan that cannot even imagine snow right now. It is going to be 85 this weekend. I love your silhouettes...I want to do some of my kiddos. When I was a kid my mom got them done of us at Disney World...they are still framed in her house.
Hi, I saw you from Buzzings of a Queen Bee! I love this! It is adorable and such a great idea! I'll definitely have to try it!
Okay I am so doing this now. I have been meaning to do this for a while but other "things" get in the way as always. Yours turned out so fabulous and I love how easy it was. Yup this one is going on the to do list for sure!
If it makes you feel any better we had snow here about 3 weeks ago. Crazy weather. There has been more than one year where it has snowed on Halloween, so we ALWAYS wear warm costumes. ;)
Snow flurries?! I know it sounds silly...but I am jealous! We don't have those here in Alabama :-)
The sillouettes turned out beautiful! It is very classy & classic. I would have never thought to use a sharpie.
I love how those turned out. Beautiful!! I can't believe you cut them out!

Oh what a great idea for the Silhouettes! I have been wanting to do some of my kiddos and I think I will try it your way! Thanks for sharing...oh and snow flurries...I am a bit jealous...I live in Texas where it is still quite warm! In fact our Halloween forecast is for a high of 80 degrees!
Hard to imagine snow right now...
Love the silhouettes! I have been wanting to try this for awhile now. Yours look great!
Such a clever idea with the Sharpie - a little boutique down the road does silhouettes for kids while you shop for the "low" price of $50 a piece! Love how sophisticated and classy they look.
Those turned out great. It's really making me want to try this. I guess I have to add it to my to-do list that never seems to shrink.
Can I justifyably be jelous of snow?? i THINK i AM!! I really love the silhouettes. You did a great job.
I'm DYING to do silhouettes of my grandbabies before those sweet little profiles change. Thanks for the inspiration. I can not believe you did that intricate cutting without using specialty scissors. Amazing.
I wish I knew a way to do them with Photoshop and just print them out. There's got to be a way but it would take me a week to figure it out!
GREAT Job and good idea for "stealing!" LOL
Thank you!
Blessings,
Sher
they look great especially with the wider mats. i did one of my dog. deana
So cute! I love Sharpies, too. :)
That is fantastic! I love the simplicity and duh factor of what you did - I never would have thought of that and I have been wanting to do silhouettes of my kids for some time. Problem is, my younger one is 17 months old - not likely to stay still for a picture. But you get my bravo for being so creative - I will definitely keep this in mind for when the kids get a wee bit older.

I have got to try this. I was going to send a picture away and pay like $60...but I couldn't bring myself to do it. So glad I didn't!!
:)
Oh my goodness I can't believe you cut those out girl! That is a task in and of itself! Snow flurries? Holy molly it was shorts and tshirt weather in St Louis today if you can believe that! Happy almost Halloween to you~ Les
YOu always have great ideas - I can't believe you cut them out. I'm going to try it.
Thats a cool way of doing that!
Sigh..where were you eight months ago before I paid big $$$s to have my grandson's silhouette done by a "professional" -- and it doesn't even look like him! I'm going to try this one myself. Thanks!
These silhouettes are beautiful!! I am loving your blog!
