Ideas a brewin'

I went and bought me some photo transfer paper the other day, because I've had an idea in the back of my mind for a while, and I thought it was time to do something about it. I fancy myself somewhat of an artist. I like to draw anyway, and sometimes my drawings turn out pretty well. I decided it would be fun to see them on fabric. And I thought, what better way to start than doing a few tees for my kiddos.

My boys love pirates. So I decided to draw them a cute little Jolly Roger. I scanned it into the computer, printed it out on some photo transfer paper, and put it on some tees for the boys. They turned out great....I LOVE THEM!

But wait until you see what I did for the Princess. Every princess needs a crown, don't ya think? (I offered to do a Jolly Roger for her as well...but needless to say she vetoed it.) So I drew a fancy little crown, scanned it in, played around with it in my photo editor so I could make it sepia-toned, then printed it out and put it on this little tee. I love the fact that it looks all vintagy! That was really the look that I was going for. She can't wait to wear it to school.

Ah, ideas are brewin'! I can see some home accessories on the horizon. And maybe even some for sale...what do you all think? Am I crazy?

I am thinking you could draw something(i.e. nest, monogram, rooster, bee(i personally LOVE bees), etc) and put them on hemstitched towels and add a bow. I would so buy that! In fact, do you think you could. Even the crown would be cute for a queen of her kitchen.

Betsy...funny you should mention bees...I already have one that I was working on a plan for...stay tuned ;-)

Super cute, Wendy! Do you have to be a kid to wear a crown on your shirt? :) I love it!

I have seen a lot of transfer paper designs on the Better Homes and Gardens website. Everything from t-shirts to pillows and huge wall murals. They are always beautiful, you would probably do very well with it!

P.S. Wend- I forgot to tell you that regular old t-shirts are 2 for $5- at Michaels through Saturday. (I know that they don't have a lot of shape, but they work great for the boys.)

I'll be honest with you ladies...all I did was follow the directions right on the package. I'm not sure if different brands of paper work different ways or not, so my advice is to buy yourself a package and simply follow the directions :-)

Hi Wendy,
I seriously thought the image of the crown was just something you found on the Internet. That is so impressive...really!!! You must do more!! The fact that you played with it with your photo editor is also very impressive. That would make your ideas endless. Bravo. : )

Wow!!!! You *drew* that crown!? A hidden talent you had yet to share with us! It looks fabulous. Maybe you should sell that cute shirt in both girl and mom sizes!

Wow, you are so talented with your drawings. Have you found that the photo transfer paper works better on certain colors or shades of t shirts?

Wendy said...

Amber...I haven't tried it with very many colors. Only white and grey, but I definitely like it on the white more.
